Description

A strong, thick, dark-color pasteboard. First produced in the 17th century, milled boards were made from old tarred rope, sacking and similar materials. Milled boards were given their name because they were rolled, or milled, between heavy iron rolls. This produced a smooth finish. Iron impurities in the milled boards have catalyzed acid formation with resultant degradation. Milled boards have been superseded by millboards and strawboards.
