Well-shaped particle of gypsum mixed with iron oxides. PPL, 400x. Sample collected from brownish resides in an apothecary jar in the Colonial Williamsburg Collection (CWF 1947-177). Particle has a columnar shape with characteristic 'swallowtail', or twinning, visible. Examined with a Nikon NiU upright polarizing light microscope, image captured with DSRi1 Pixel-shifting camera and Nikon Elements Basic Research software. Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Materials Analysis Laboratory.
