Uemera's notes In the Amami island, Japan, they used to use this technique when dyeing browns for the Ōshima-tsumugi cloth. Nowadays, use of Tekachigi (Rhaphiolepis indica (L.) Lindl. Ex Ker var. umbellata (Thunb.) H.Ohashi) alternatively became more common.
