Bond strength

Description

The maximum amount of load an adhesive bond interface between two adhered materials can withstand before breaking. The load may be presented as tension, compression, flex, peel, impact, cleavage, or shear. A high bond strength indicates that an adhesive forms a strong bond. For archival work, it is important that the bond strength be less than the inherent strength of the two adhered materials so that if a force is applied to the joined materials, it will break along the previous joint rather than form a new break.
