Description

The appearance of a dry, powdery surface on paint or plastic. Chalking results from the oxidative degradation of the binder exposing a layer of pigment or filler on the surface. It commonly occurs on material exposed to outdoor environments and sunlight, such as house and automobile paints. Chalking can also occur in paints and inks that were mixed with insufficient or ineffective binders.
