Description

A substance used to strengthen and solidify another material. A consolidant is infused into the interstices of a porous, friable or deteriorated material, such as stone, paint or wood. The consolidant hardens within the pores to stabilize the structural integrity of the piece. Examples of materials used as consolidants are: epoxies, acrylics, silicates, and polyethylene glycols.
