Description
The tannin-rich pods from the Caesalpinia coriaria tree native to the West Indies and South America. The 3-inch long pods contain a high percentage (up to 45%) of water-soluble, pyrogallol tannin. Divi-divi produces a light colored leather that tends to be soft and spongy unless combined with another type of tanning agent. When fermented, divi-divi develops a deep red color that is used to dye for leather.
