Pigment sample from Santos painting by the Truchas Master (1780-1840) in the Colonial Williamsburg Collection (CWF 1990.101.1). Sample collected from yellow sash of the main figure. Photomicrograph of yellow pigments in XPL at 1000X. The presence of orpiment was confirmed with XRF. Image captured with a Nikon NiU upright polarizing light microscope and DSRi1 Pixel-shifting camera + Nikon Elements Basic Research software. Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Materials Analysis Laboratory.
