Class A-D fire extinguisher

A portable device used to put out fires. Fire extinguishers are specific to the combustion material in the fire.

- Class A - combustible materials such as wood and textiles require a coolant extinguisher, such as or carbon dioxide.

- Class B - flammable liquids, oils and grease require a smothering extinguisher, such as carbon dioxide, foam or dry chemical. Do not use water.

- Class C - electrical fires require carbon dioxide gas or dry chemical extinguishers. Do not use water.

- Class D - burning metals require a dry powder formulation such as graphite or trimethoxyboroxine. Do not use water.
