A type of bobbin lace in which the design is interconnected with thread bars or plaits, called brides. Guipure lace is continuous and does not have a net or mesh ground. Saxony guipure, Cluny, Maltese, and Bohemian lace are all guipure laces. The word Guipure is now indiscriminately applied to all large-patterned laces with coarse grounds.
