Koninklijk Instituut voor het Kunstpatrimonium - Institut Royal du Patrimoine Artistique (Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage)

Established in 1948, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage is dedicated to the study and conservation of the artistic and cultural heritage of the country. As a federal scientific institution, the Institute's primary mission is research and public service. The building, finished in 1962, was the first in the world specially designed to promote the interdisciplinary approach to works of art. Three departments (Documentation, Laboratories, and Conservation-Restoration) work together to achieve this goal, comprising art historians, photographers, chemists, physicists and conservator-restorers.
