Uemera's notes The dye bath contained vinegar and alum, along with the dye extract. For the preparation, firstly, vinegar was added, which shifted the color of the bath from red to more yellow. Secondly, alum was added, which changed the color into red. Use of vinegar prevented the precipitation of aluminum oxide lake (アルミナレーキ). The resultant color was reddish purple. The same phenomena would happen when copper would be used as mordant instead.
