Description

White to yellowish crystals that are used to detect the presence of mechanical wood pulp in paper. Phloroglucinol test solution contains Hydrochloric acid and ethanol. A drop placed on the paper will turn red when Lignin is present (detection limit is about 5%). Iron will react with phloroglucinol giving a purple product. Once the two-part solution is mixed, it has a shelf life of 2-3 months (TAPPI T401).

Synonyms and Related Terms
