Society of American Archivists

"The Society of American Archivists (SAA) was founded in December of 1936, ...to promote sound principles of archival economy and to facilitate cooperation among archivists and archival agencies. The membership was open to all who are or have been engaged in the custody or administration of archives or historical manuscripts. This included archives of all sizes and orientation, from small private and business archives to large historical collections. ...Among the most important current priorities, in addition to providing core membership services (such as annual meetings and publications) are: to develop a strategy to expand and promote membership to defined constituencies and specialty segments within the archival community; to further develop and refine continuing education offerings, including exploring distance learning options; and to increase external funding support to the organization."
