Description

A nondestructive method used to characterize physical properties of materials. Ultrasonic testing can be used on many types of materials to check for inhomogeneities. Varying frequencies are required to penetrate different types of materials, i.e. for a 0.5 inch plate of steel (1-5 mHz ), for plastics (0.5 mHz) and for concrete (0.1 mHz). Ultrasonic vibrations are used to check porosity, liquid levels, temperature, viscosity and density.
