Description
An oil that evaporates at room temperature. Volatile oil are distinguished from fixed oils with the paper test. When a drop of oil is placed on a paper, a volatile oil will not leave a spot while a fixed oil will. Volatile oils are generally distilled from plants. Essential oils are usually volatile oils.
