Description
A compound that can be converted into a dye or pigment. Color films use color couplers in the emulsion layers that react with the chromogen and the photosensitive halide to produce the developed color. Chromogenic compounds and their color couplers are not always stable and may cause staining or discoloration on storage. Chromogenic compounds are used in some color negative films, in papers used for printing color negatives, and in some papers used for printings positive color transparencies.
