Barnack limestone

Description

A medium-grain, cream-color, shelly Limestone quarried near Barnack in central England. Barnack limestone was used for buildings in ancient England and employed by King Wolfere for Peterborough Cathedral in 664 CE (Lent 1925). Many of the oldest colleges in Cambridge are built with Barnack limestone. The quarries were exhausted by the 16th century (Lent 1925).
