[Dow Chemical] A brand name for a fumigant. Dowfume 75 consists of 70% ethylene dichloride with 30% carbon tetrachloride added to reduce flammability. Both ethylene dichloride and carbon tetrachloride are strong solvents that will dissolve oils, waxes, fats, paints and many polymers. Degradation products and or impurities in Dowfume 75 may corrode aluminum, magnesium and their alloys (Zycherman and Schrock, 1988).
Hazards and Safety
Toxic by ingestion, inhalation and skin absorption. Human carcinogen. Ethylene dichloride is flammable and vapors are explosive.
