Description

A measure of yarn length that is used to determine density. The length of a lea of yarn varies with fiber type:

  • wool: a lea is usually 80 yards (73 meters)
  • cotton: a lea is usually 120 yards (110 meters)
  • silk: a lea is usually 120 yards (110 meters)
  • linen: a lea is usually 300 yards (274 meters)

The count or number of a yarn is given as the leas per pound of fiber. Thus a 10 count linen yarn has 3000 yards per pound.
