Description
A type of chromatography that separates compounds based on their molecular size. Size Exclusion Chhromatography (SEC)(formerly called Gel Permeation Chromatography, GPC) uses a separation column filled with a porous, semisolid material. Small molecules pass quickly through the column while larger particles are slowed by their siz and diffusion rates. SEC is primarily used for characterizing molecular weight distributions of polymer units. It has also been used to separate enzymes and amino acids.
