Description
A thermoplastic resin which is similar to natural natural rubber. Polybutadiene is made by the polymerization of 1,3-butadiene with a stereospecific organometallic catalyst in order to obtain the cis isomer. Polybutadiene has good wear and crack resistance. It is used in tire treads and as a coating. It is often blended with styrene to form rubber SBR and blended with styrene and acrylonitrile to form butadiene styrene resin ABS rubbers.
Synonyms and Related Terms
PBR (butadiene rubber); polybutadiene elastomer (AAT); polibutadieno (Esp.); poli butadiene (It.); polibutadieno (Port.)
Other Properties
Soluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.Insoluble in acetone, diethyl ether.
Hazards and Safety
Toxic by ingestion and inhalation.Skin contact may cause irritation.Combustible.
