Bianco sangiovanni

Description
A white pigment mixture composed of hydroxide calcium hydroxide and carbonate calcium carbonate that was recommended by Bennino Cennini for use in fresco paintings (Mayer 1969). Bianco sangiovanni is prepared by exposing lumps of wet lime putty to the air for months. The lime becomes partially carbonated to form the two component mixture.
