Red/Red Mixtures: Ukiyo-e colorant
Other Reds: Red mixtures of madder and safflower have commonly been found (see Madder + Safflower). They are most often detected by analyzed the back of a print in a region that madder was found in the front as the safflower penetrated the paper better than the madder. Additionally, some multiple component reds were made by overprinting.

Analysis
A combination of Excitation Emission Matrix (EEM) spectroscopy, Fiber optic reflectance spectroscopy (FORS), and X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is used to detect the various reds.
