Description

A concrete block that uses coal cinders as a filler. Cinder blocks were patented by F.J.Straub in 1917. They retained the high compressive strength of concrete blocks with the added benefits of being lightweight, less expensive and penetrable by nails. Lightweight cinder blocks weigh less than 105 pounds per cubic foot while medium weight concrete blocks weigh 105 to 125 pounds per cubic foot. Cinder blocks were only used for a short period because they had poor durability.
