Description

[Proctor & Gamble] A brand name for the first commercially available synthetic household laundry detergent. Dreft, introduced in 1933, is primarily composed of a fatty alcohol sulfonate. It was more expensive than soap, but wquickly became popular in hard-water areas. The current version of the powdered soap also contains water-softeners and a color-safe bleach (sodium perborate) along with a whitener, colorant and perfume.
