Description
An organic colorant that absorbs ultraviolet radiation and emits visible light, usually in the blue region. Fluorescent dyes, such as Umbelliferone, are often used on white fabrics and papers as fluorescent whitening agents or brighteners. Colored examples of daylight fluorescent dyes are:
Rhodamine B, Rhodamine F5G [BASF], Xylene Red B [Sandoz Chemical], Fluorescent Yellow Y [L.B.Holliday], Maxilon Brilliant Flavine 10Gff [Ciba-Geigy]; Alberta Yellow, Potomac Yellow [Day-Glo Color Corp.]; Macrolex Fluorescent Yellow 10GN [Bayer].
