Description
An adhesive composition applied to a surface prior to the application of gold leaf. The adhesive may be an thin layer of animal glue or a resin/oil mixture. One recipe for a resin/oil mixture is given as 2 parts copal varnish 1 part yellow ocher 4 parts turpentine and 8 parts boiled oil (Condensed Chemical Dictionary, 1961).
