Uemera's notes This technique produces what was called "Tsurubami (橡)" in the Ibukuryo (衣服令) from the 8th century AD, and the name of the plant appears in a Japanese classic poem in the Manyōshū (万葉集), volume 12, from the 7th -8th century AD: つるばみの一重の衣うらもなくあるらん?ゆゑ戀ひわたるかも
