Triphenylmethane dye

Description

A group of dyes whose molecular structure has a central carbon atom connecting 3 aromatic rings. Triarylmethane dyes act as dye basic dyes on wool and silk. They can also be used with mordants on cotton. These blue, green, and violet dyes are brilliant. They only have fair lightfastness, but are used in some artist paints labeled brilliant. Examples of triarylmethane dyes are green Malachite Green, rosaniline, fuchsin, violet methyl violet, and phenolphthalein.
