Flame retardants are often added to susceptible materials, such as textiles, plastics or wood to slow or inhibit the spread of fire. Examples of fire retardant chemicals (FRC) include clays, boric acid, sodium borate, ammonium sulfate, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate as well as most halides, phosphates and sulfates.
