Antifouling paint

Description

A paint that contains a compound to inhibit growth or marine parasite, such as barnacles. Antifouling paints are used on boats, pier pilings, oil platforms, floats, buoys, and mooring cables. Example of active ingredients in antifouling paints include heavy metal compounds, such as cuprous oxide. As of 2003, Tributyl tin oxide has been banned for use in antifouling paints due to its toxicity to all marine life.
