Denier is a weight per unit length measure that is numerically equal to the weight in grams of 9000 meters of the material. Thus, a low denier number indicates a light, fine filament while a high denier number indicates a coarse, heavy fiber. Most countries outside the United States have switched from the denier system to the tex system.
