Description
An optical device used to transmit parallel rays of light. A collimator commonly consists of a converging lens at one end of a long tube. The light enters through a pin hole at the other end of the tube then diverges until reaching the converging lens where it is reoriented in a parallel path. Collimators are used in telescopes and spectrometers.
