Transverse

Description

For wood, a transvere cut is perpendicular to the longitudinal grain of the tree. Transverse cuts on a cake would produce a set of parallel, horizontal slices starting from the top to the bottom, where each slice is a full circle. Tree growth rings are seen as a series of embedded circles in transverse cuts.
