Description
A grass grown as a grain and forage crop. Rye (Triticeae family) grain grew wild in central and eastern Turkey and has been found as a domesticated plant in Neolithic sites in Turkey. It was widely cultivated in Central and Eastern Europe since the Middle Ages. Rye is used for flour, rye bread, straw, rye beer, some whiskies, some vodkas, and animal fodder.
