A yellow amorphous powder that dyes [http://cameo.mfa.org/materials/fullrecord.asp?name=wool wool] and [http://cameo.mfa.org/materials/fullrecord.asp?name=silk silk] a deep yellow color. Chrysotoluidine was discovered in 1866 by Girard and Chapoteaut. It readily oxides to form a red color.
A yellow amorphous colorant that was the first azo dye.  Aniline yellow was discovered in Charles Mène in 1861. It dyes [[wool]] and [[silk]] a deep yellow color, but has poor lightfastness. Aniline yellow has been used for used in microscopy, pyrotechnics, as well as pigments and inks. It is also used in insecticides, lacquers, varnishes, waxes, oil stains, and styrene resins.
