Description

The nitrogen containing compound found in excrement from reptiles and birds. Uric acid was discovered by the Swedish scientist, Carl Scheele in 1777, when he extracted it from Peruvian guano. He later reacted it with nitric acid to for purpuric acid, a red colorant that was the precursor to murexide.
