Description
[Lutz File & Tool Co., Sharonville, OH, USA] Gorilla Glue® is a trademark brand of adhesives. The Original Gorilla Glue formula was introduced in 1994. Since its release, the company has expanded to offer Gorilla tape, Gorilla Super Glue, Gorilla Wood Glue, Gorilla Construction Adhesives and more.
The Gorilla Glue brand has several formulas of construction adhesive including the Gorilla Construction Adhesive, Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive, Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate, and Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear. These formulas are all non-foaming, unlike several Gorilla glue formulas. They are paintable and sandable once dry, but not stainable.
Gorilla Construction Adhesive is a limestone-bulked adhesive designed to attach drywall, tile, molding, and fixtures to walls, ceilings, and floors. It is non-foaming, unlike some of the original Gorilla Glue formulas. When dry, the adhesive is water resistant.[1]
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive is reported to be more durable than the previous formula. It is gap-filling and fast-grabbing (holds in 30 seconds). When dry, the adhesive is waterproof and therefore suitable for outdoor use.[2]
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate is reportedly the most durable formula of Gorilla Construction Adhesives. Unlike the previous formulas, it is useable underwater. It grabs instantly (0 seconds). It is gap-filling and does not shrink as it cures. When dry, the adhesive is white and flexible.[3]
Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear is the strongest construction adhesive produced by the Gorilla brand (2x stronger than the basic construction adhesive). It is gap-filling and useable underwater. When dry, the adhesive is colorless and transparent.[4]
Personal Risk
Gorilla Construction Adhesive contains limestone and quartz. is not currently classified as a hazard. Dust should not be inhaled when sanding. More information may be obtained from the product SDS report.
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive contains limestone, carbonic acid, stearic acid, and quartz. It may cause an allergic skin reaction. Avoid breathing vapors, mist, or spray. Contaminated work clothing must not be allowed out of the workplace. Wear protective gloves. Do not inhale dust. More information may be obtained from the product SDS report.
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate contains titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is listed as a Group 2B carcinogen by the IARC – possibly carcinogenic to humans. This product may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Avoid breathing vapors, mist, or spray. Contaminated work clothing must not be allowed out of the workplace. Wear protective gloves. More information may be obtained from the product SDS report.
Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear may cause an allergic skin reaction, causes serious eye irritation. Avoid breathing vapors. Wash hands and other exposed areas thoroughly after handling. Contaminated work clothing must not be allowed out of the workplace. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection. More information may be obtained from the product SDS report.
Environmental Risk
Gorilla Construction Adhesives are VOC compliant.
- Gorilla Construction Adhesive contains less than 3% VOC content.
- Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive and Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate contain less than 2% VOC content.
- Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear contains less than 6% VOC content.
Collection Risk
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive. Oddy Tests performed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art (08/09/2017) indicated Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive is suitable for temporary use with collections.
Working Properties
Gorilla Construction Adhesive. Prepare surfaces for bonding by cleaning them of dirt, grease, and oil. One surface must be porous (ex. Wood, brick, etc.). It should be applied at an ambient temperature above 40F. After curing for 1 hour, it is paintable with acrylic or latex paints. All other paints may be used after 24 hours. The cured adhesive is sandable but not stainable.
The product should be stored in a cool, dry location with the nozzle attached and filled with adhesive to act as a seal. Do not freeze.
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive. Use as with Gorilla Construction Adhesive. This product may also be used to bond non-porous materials but with increased cure time. It is also useable as a gap-filler. Surfaces may be damp during application.
Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate. Use as with previous formula. Surfaces may be wet during application.
Gorilla Max Strength Construction Adhesive Clear. Use as with previous formula. Join members are repositionable for 10 minutes after application. This adhesive is paintable 2 hours after application with a light brush stroke application. All Gorilla Construction Adhesives are not recommended for use on polyethylene, polypropylene, bitumen, or similar materials.
