Description
An adhesive composed of a synthetic resin or elastomer. Synthetic resins used as adhesives provide a wider range of properties than natural based adhesives. Examples of synthetic adhesives are:
1) Thermoplastic resins - cellulose nitrate, polyvinyl acetate, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, polyesters, acrylics, and cyanoacrylics.
2) Thermoset resins - phenol formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde, unsaturated polyesters, epoxies, and polyurethanes.
3) Elastomers - natural rubber, butyl rubber, polybutadiene, styrene-butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, silicone, and neoprene.
