Description

An abbreviation for the Printing Industries Research Association test used to evaluate the condition of vegetable tanned leathers. The P.I.R.A. test examines the extent of deterioration caused over a seven day period by the exposure of a leather specimen to sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Leather that becomes black and gelatinized is deemed unsatisfactory for use.
