Description
A small, light brown cockroach, Supella longipalpa and Supella supellectilium, that grows up to 12.5 mm long. The adult brown banded cockroach has light yellow cross bands on the dorsal side. Both the nymphs and adults feed on almost anything, such as starchy, sugary and proteinaceous foods. They will eat cloth that is sized with starch or glue. The adult insects can live almost 2 years and lay eggs that cemented together in a sausage-shaped case that hatch into nymphs in about 70 days. The egg case is usually attached to walls, cabinets, ceilings or any region where the temperature is warmer. The brown banded cockroach travels on cabinets and walls and is rarely seen on the floor. Cockroaches are nocturnal and are sensitive to light. Common desiccating powders such as borax, Dri-die and sulfur are used along with pesticides to exterminate cockroaches.
