Description

A colorless crystalline solid that is used industrially as a crosslinking agent to form stable alcohol gels. Magnesium methoxide has also been used for the nonaqueous neutralization and alkalization of paper (Paper Catalog). Magnesium methoxide is dissolved in dry methanol or Freon for deposition on paper usually by aerosol spraying. After treatment, the moisture in room air will react with magnesium methoxide to form magnesium hydroxide which then slowly converts to magnesium carbonate.

Synonyms and Related Terms

magnesium methylate; Wei T'O
