Description
A classification of silicate minerals that form parallel sheets of silicate tetrahedra with Si2O5 or a 2:5 ratio. Examples of these sheet silicates include:
- Serpentine group: Antigorite, Chrysotile, Lizardite
- Clay mineral group: Halloysite, Kaolinite, Illite, Montmorillonite, Vermiculite, Talc, Palygorskite, Pyrophyllite
- Mica group: Biotite, Muscovite, Phlogopite, Lepidolite, Margarite, Glauconite
- Chlorite group: Chlorite
