Description
An electrochemical device that stores and/or generates electrical energy. A simple single cell battery contains an Anode and a Cathode immersed in an Electrolyte solution. The ion flow from the anode to the cathode produces an electric current. Benjamin Franklin coined the word 'battery' in 1748, to describe an array of charged glass plates (Wikipedia, 2005).
