Catalyst

Description

Any substance that accelerates a chemical reaction without being consumed or altered by the reaction. Some examples are: cobalt driers speed up the oxidation of linseed oil; enzymes catalyze the hydrolytic degradation of specific metabolic reactions; and peroxides initiate the cure of polyester resin.
