Description

An abbreviation for East India.

1) E.I was commonly used as a descriptive term for hides and skins tanned in the southern part of India, near Madras (Roberts and Etherington 1982).

2) E.I. was also used for products sold by the East India company which traded with India, southeast Asia and the islands of the East Indies. Major products included spices, tea, rosewood and natural resins that were similar to dammar and copal.
