Balata

Description

A nonelastic Rubber obtained from the balata tree, Manilkara bidentata, native to South America. Balata is an isomer of Isoprene but it cannot be vulcanized and it is not stretchy. It is used for conveyor belts and golf ball covers. The balata tree also provides a deep-red wood that is very hard and durable. Balata wood is used for cabinetry.
