Description

An adhesive composed of a synthetic resin or elastomer. Synthetic resins used as adhesives provide a wider range of properties than natural based adhesives. Examples of synthetic adhesives are:

1) Thermoplastic resins - nitrate cellulose nitrate, acetate polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, resin polyesters, resin acrylics, and cyanoacrylics.

2) Thermoset resins - formaldehyde resin phenol formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin urea formaldehyde, unsaturated polyesters, epoxies, and polyurethanes.

3) Elastomers - natural natural rubber, rubber butyl rubber, polybutadiene, rubber styrene-butadiene rubber, rubber nitrile rubber, resin silicone, and neoprene.
