Description
A numbering system that indicates the weight of a cotton yarn. The base count of cotton is 840 yard to the pound. Thus, a No. 10 cotton has 10 times the base count or 8400 yards to the pounds. A No. 80 sewing thread has 76200 yards to the pound. With this system, a higher yarn number indicates a finer grade of yarn.
